Review: Losing Lila by Sarah Alderson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Source: Borrowed from library

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Alex and Lila are on the run, desperately trying to stay one step ahead of the Unit, which is somehow tracking their every move. While Alex is determined to keep Lila safe and her ability secret at any cost, Lila's only thought is of finding a way back to California so she can rescue her brother and mother from the military base where they're being held. Struggling to control both her growing power and her deepening feelings for Alex, Lila decides the time has finally come to stop running and start fighting. Together with Alex, Demos, and the others she's come to think of as family, Lila plans not only to save her brother and mum, but also to completely destroy the Unit and everything it stands for. But the plan requires Lila to return to California alone, and to make friends with the enemy - and in doing so, she risks losing everything: Alex, her family… even her life.

Book 2 in the Lila series

This sequel keeps up the heart-pounding tempo of excitement built up in the first book, as you have kidnappings, betrayals, military cover-ups, and people with psychic powers being persecuted across the country. There are even further twists and turns, and the story really develops.

Alex is even more drool-worthy in this book (if that's even possible!), as he and Lila find themselves on the run from the Unit, hiding out in Mexico, and plotting to rescue Lila's brother and mother, who are imprisoned on a military base.

I adore the romance story in this book- it is so well written and believable, and gives a much needed boost of happiness in an otherwise dramatic and thrilling action-movie plot line. Alex is the sweetest, and the two of them really compliment each other's strengths.

Forming a bond of friendship with an unlikely group of misfits with assorted powers they form a plan and risk everything in the rescue attempt. From this group I just adore Suki and Nate, and their quirkiness and sarcastic comments had me giggling every time they were mentioned.

Again, I just love the focus on these amazing characters, their emotional roller-coaster and the dramas of their lives. Lila has such a likable determined attitude, and in this sequel she really grows in confidence and in her abilities, which frustrates Alex at times as he just wants to protect her, and she wants to fight beside him!

This is a fantastic action-packed and emotional series that I just love. The only trouble is that there's no word of a third book at the moment- and I want more!

Alex ♥
