From The Review Pile #4

From The Review Pile is a weekly meme hosted by Stephanie at Stepping Out Of The Page, where bloggers and reviewers can showcase all those books received for review that we really want to read, but haven't managed to get around to reading yet.

How amazing does this book sound?! It's a steampunk sci-fi novel full of people with strange and peculiar abilities, set in an alternate 1800s world. The main character is part goblin! I love the sound of this book, but I won't get around to reading it for a couple of months yet- my TBR pile is toppling over. (And just look at that cover- awesome!)

The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry

Goodreads
This dark and thrilling adventure, with an unforgettable heroine, will captivate fans of steampunk, fantasy, and romance. On her 18th birthday, Lena Mattacascar decides to search for her father, who disappeared into the northern wilderness of Scree when Lena was young. Scree is inhabited by Peculiars, people whose unusual characteristics make them unacceptable to modern society. Lena wonders if her father is the source of her own extraordinary characteristics and if she, too, is Peculiar. On the train she meets a young librarian, Jimson Quiggley, who is traveling to a town on the edge of Scree to work in the home and library of the inventor Mr. Beasley. The train is stopped by men being chased by the handsome young marshal Thomas Saltre. When Saltre learns who Lena’s father is, he convinces her to spy on Mr. Beasley and the strange folk who disappear into his home, Zephyr House. A daring escape in an aerocopter leads Lena into the wilds of Scree to confront her deepest fears.

  2. I have this one on my review pile, too. *sigh* I was so excited about it pre-release, and then other books came along and stole my attention away. I hope we both love it when we get to it! :D
