Review: Where She Went by Gayle Forman

Where She WentWhere She Went by Gayle Forman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5/ 5 stars

Sequel to If I Stay

Where She Went is set 3 years after the accident and told from Adam's perspective. We get to see the effect that the accident and Mia's leaving had on Adam's life. Both Adam and Mia have become very sucessful but haven't seen each other for a very long time- only hearing about each other's successes through word of mouth. A chance meeting brings them together again, and their stories are brought out into the open, old wounds are re-opened and old feelings stirred up again.

Like the first book, this one also jumps back and forth between the present and Adam's memories- which gives us the perfect balance betwen the drama of the moment, and also the underlying significance behind what is being said, and how deep their feelings for each other really are. This is a real emotional roller coaster of grief, pain, love, and heartbreak. I was so emotionally invested in these characters- I wanted them to be okay. Adam is so fragile and damaged by his experiences as an LA rockstar, you wonder whether his seeing Mia again is going to push him over the edge or help heal him, and all the way through this book I wanted to know if they were going to explore what happened and then move on with their lives or get back together again.

The writing is so beautiful, and you just really get a sense of Adam's passion, his loneliness and his anger and frustration with life. This a truly fantastic love story with plenty of heart, and Adam and Mia's story will stay with me for a long time. Fans of If I Stay have to read this one too. I loved this book so much.

  1. Eeek...I can't wait to read this. I have it but haven't read it yet. I bet it is an emotional roller coaster. It's so hard coming back to this story and not having it be happier ever after post-If I Stay.
